Hello Dear Ones,
Hope the entrance to your new year has been one of beauty and grace so far! I feel all of the efforts of last year are bringing in the fruits of my labors and setting a foundation that feels firm enough for me to plant my feet on. So I'm grateful that the life I'm living is the same life that wants to live in me!
February has the promise to be a great month. We get another opportunity to reinforce or recreate the intentions we had set for the for Gregorian calendar New Year by celebrating the Chinese New Year (February 19th) ! We also have Presidents' Day and the opportunity to learn about part of our American culture with Black History Month.
Also, it’s the month for love with Valentine's Day on the 14th. I know, some of you may be groaning right now that I've even brought it up! Do the ads make you feel like everyone in the world is passionately and perfectly in love but you? I used to be bothered by it too. It was just another day of spending a bunch of money on things that often end up in yard sales and thrift stores like stuffed animals and “I love you” plastic pins. Sorry for the rant here but the non-fair trade chocolate and blood/conflict diamonds frenzy got to me.
Full disclosure: Could be I was a tad sour because I had not had a Valentine since 2004. Oh, this share feels vulnerable! Still, I love sharing my truth with others in hopes that someone’s heart that needs to hear this, will know they are not alone. I had been dating although somehow we’d always miss Valentine’s day (I’m noticing right now the part of me that feels happy about that, avoiding the pressure of it)nonetheless it’s a holiday that can bring a special sweetness. It can also fulfill the desire we have to feel we matter, are seen, supported, and cherished.
Are you having a hard time with this day? My heart is with you. I'll share some of the little things that have helped me to appreciate and love this day as an “Honoring Self-day”! I’ve pampered myself with facials, mani/pedis, long baths, new lingerie or clothes. I’ve dined on my favorite food, taken walks in my favorite places, and made like Cupid by practicing my archery! Sometimes I’ve gathered with friends that are in the same boat. We’ve gone for a movie, food or tea and enjoyed each other's company. I’ve even gone as far as writing myself a card/e-card and expressing all the things I love about myself and that I would love to hear from my partner someday. Boy, does it make me giggle and light up when I read them; it’s truly the sweetest thing to write a love letter to yourself. It's like making your heart an open house for butterflies!
If you're in a place of singlehood for now, I invite you to shower yourself with love and indulge in all of the things you’d like for someone to do to you!
In a relationship? Have a fun heartfelt experience sharing time with the person you care so much for! And as someone who loves to offer insight, you will love yourself for spending with integrity. Check to see if the product/s that you’re buying for your love is something you would stand by, like how and where it was made and under what conditions, etc. This acknowledgement will change how you shop and will make your gift that much more meaningful. It may even have a beautiful story behind it and by your purchase, has helped support a good cause, or someone’s quest to make the world a better place.
We're fortunate to live in a town like SB that offers such a wonderful selection of sustainable gifts.
Of love. ~Jada
I'm on a mission to finding my true self. Letting go of the old identity I've created to find the new. I would love to have you there to witness and to share the experience.
