My apologies for the delay in newsletters, and thanks to those who've let me know you've missed them! I’ll share briefly what I’ve been up to! But first- I’d like to check in to see how your summer has been? Did you survive that intense heat wave? I hear there's more of those energy-zappers to come. Did you feel lethargic, slow or tired during those hot days? Well just like you, your stomach does too. You may experience sluggish digestion, a bit of nausea, and/or constipation. Summer is synonymous with barbecues and rich feasts, where often heavy, rich foods (BBQ sauce, deviled eggs/mayonnaise, cheese, baked goods, beer, etc.) are served up with seconds as part of the ritual. Some things that can help are having fewer servings of meat per day, either consuming smaller amounts per meal or having just one meat meal a day. Eating fewer raw foods can help, too. I hear you complaining: "But Jada, a salad is my go-to during the summer!" I know, it sounds counter-intuitive, but raw food in a sluggish, damp belly is much like lettuce sitting in a bowl on a table mid-summer in New Orleans (the most humid place in the country according to Current Results website), it just wilts and sits! Moderation is key in Chinese medicine: eat light, smaller meals. Increase your intake of water, which will help with hydration of course, but also curbs the appetite a bit, as experts say that most of our hunger is the body craving water. I'm sharing the office with the wonderful Amyris Wilson (a spiritual teacher, healer, and speaker), therefore my days have changed. My new hours are: Sunday, 10am-2p, Monday 10am-5:30pm, Tuesday, 10am-5pm (Yes, it's still Tune-Up Tuesday!) and Thursday 10am-5:30pm. I'm sharing the building with other incredible people too. I'll tell you about them in next months newsletter, but meanwhile, stay tuned for our open house on the expected date of 8/11/18 as we will want to see you there.
